SELECT FILM TRAILERS FOR OUR OCTOBER 21st FILM SHOWCASE
We are currently taking a poll to discover what the community would like to watch for the Lander Cinema Club's first film showcase, on Wednesday October 21. The polls will be closed on September 30. To help the decision making process easier we have uploaded the trailers from all the possible choices.
Pan's Labyrinth
Written and directed by Mexican film-maker Guillermo del Toro. Pan's Labyrinth takes place in Spain in May and June, 1944, after the Spanish Civil War, during the Franquist repression. Also present is the main character Ofelia's fantasy world which centers around an overgrown abandoned labyrinth.Koyannisqasti
A 1982 film directed by Godfrey Reggio with music composed by Philip Glass and cinematography by Ron Fricke. The film consists primarily of slow motion and time-lapse photography of cities and many natural landscapes across the United States. The visual tone poem contains neither dialogue nor a vocalized narration: its tone is set by the juxtaposition of images and music. In the Hopi language, the word Koyaanisqatsi means "crazy life, life in turmoil, life out of balance, life disintegrating, a state of life that calls for another way of living".
Night of the Living Dead
Directed by George Romero, Night of the Living Dead is a 1968 independent black-and-white zombie film. Ben and Barbra are the protagonists of a story about the mysterious reanimation of the recently dead, and their efforts, along with five other people, to survive the night while trapped in a rural Pennsylvania farmhouse.
Metropolis
A 1927 silent science fiction film directed by Fritz Lang and written by Lang and Thea von Harbou. Metropolis is set in a futuristic urban dystopia and examines a common science fiction theme of the day: the social crisis between workers and owners in capitalism.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Wes Anderson's fourth feature length film, released in the U.S. on December 25, 2004. The offbeat comedy stars Bill Murray as Steve Zissou, an eccentric oceanographer. In this ensemble cast, Steve Zissou sets out to exact revenge on the "jaguar shark" that ate his partner Esteban. Murray's character is both a parody of and homage to Jacques-Yves Cousteau, to whom the film is dedicated.

COMING TO FRUIT
Lander University will be in full swing on September 1st and expect the Cinema Club to have an interest meeting within the first two weeks of classes.
The Cinema Club's faculty advisor is Dr. Misty Jameson and our club president is Russell Salter.
The Cinema Club is a self-education club for "cinephiles" in the pursuit of knowledge in film-theory, film history or film criticism. Since Lander University lacks a film major the Cinema Club community is the best you're gonna get. The Cinema Club invites everyone of all majors and walks of life to participate in the Cinema Club.
Every meeting, with exception to initial interest gathering meetings will begin with a short introduction of the "film of the night" and the handing out of pamphlets. Pamphlets will contain short snippets of information. After the "film of the night" everyone in attendance will have the option to dine out and discuss the film further if they wish.
